DEFINITION
System
(Lang, M 2008) referred a system as a group of interrelated components that work collectively to carry out input, processing, output, storage and control of actions in order to convert data into information products that can be used to support forecasting, planning, control, coordination, decision making and operational activities in an organization.
Information system
An information system (IS) is a set of interrelated components that collect, manipulate, store, and disseminate data and information and provide feedback mechanism to meet an objective.
Information Systems are computer based infrastructures, organizations, people and
components that pull together, process, store, transmit, present, disseminate and act on
information.
Use of information systems in many organizations has increased across all industries. Information systems have evolved over the years to match up with changes in organizational challenges from being simply operational tools to being used for strategic purposes. Although information technology is advancing at a blinding pace, there is nothing easy or mechanical about building and using information systems (Lang, M 2008).
