Religion, from the beginning of time is known for the many genocides, wars, and crusades it has instigated throughout history. Ranging from numerous terrorist acts under the veil of Islam, or the downfall of the Holy Roman Empire, religion causes altercations wherever religious followers venture to. Religiously secluded towns have even found their place in America, forming new landmarks including a special town that dons the nickname “Heavenly Hillsboro”. Hillsboro, primarily, the narrow-minded people of Hillsboro are devoid of tolerance, fraught with ignorance along with a blatantly biased justice system.
Firstly, if one were to visit Hillsboro, one can extrapolate that the town revolves around the theory of creationism, while vehemently opposing the theory of evolution. The townspeople are living under the wings of blissful ignorance. Further investigation would lead one to conclude that Hillsboro is controlled by the reins of ignorance. A prime example of blatant ignorance comes from the “The Prophet from Nebraska” himself, Matthew Harrison Brady. His ignorance towards the frightening alternative that Drummond suggests implies that Brady was always taught to be accepting towards the pleasant verses of the Holy Bible. When questioned if Brady “thinks”, he replies “I do not think about things that … I do not think about!” .This remark from Brady portrays the fact that Brady, with all his judgmental deficiencies chooses to ignore the truth and bask in his comforting asylum of ignorance. The evils of ignorance have swept away the citizen’s morality, leaving them to become creatures incapable of tolerance. Reverend Brown once stated “Do we called down hellfire on the man who has sinned against the word?”. Fervent, the Reverend is about ‘The Word’. Moreover, he has become so emotionally towards those that oppose the bible. Reverend Brown is one of many that demand freedom of religion, as opposed to freedom of one’s belief....
