1. Introduction
Communication is an indispensable part of life in this society and people would not be able to survive without it (Vertino, 2014). All individuals live their whole life with verbal and non-verbal communication from the birth to the death. Communication does not only stand for people to exchange information and knowledge to one another, but more to the point, to interact to one another as human beings around the society in the context of the intimate involvement such as relationships, families, organisations or even nations (Vertino, 2014).
There are various forms of communication, but interpersonal communication, which involves more dyadic interaction between individuals in communication system, is most closely related to people’s social act. Good use of effective interpersonal communication in both personal and professional settings may reduce conflict, promote amicable relationship, and finally improve quality of life (Vertino, 2014). This report will be giving an overview of interpersonal communication briefly with key elements and other factors that can enhance or impede effective interpersonal communication, and some theories will be also mentioned to underpin interpersonal communication. This report then will be evaluating the impact of interpersonal communication on managerial effectiveness in hotel with two different perspectives, which are a manager’s ability and an employee’s ability, and at the end, two desirable interpersonal communication transcripts will be suggested to show how the...
