Is war on terrorism bringing peace to the world?
There is not a single day we don’t hear or read the word terrorism in media. Though the entire world is concerned by this global issue and associated in its fight, several countries declared war on terrorism with USA in the lead. Is war the right way to fight terrorism? I don’t think so; furthermore, I think war is feeding terrorism, and then it will be much more efficient if we start fighting the root cause of terrorism; to do so, there are three inseparable steps: stop occupation, start dialogue, and eradicate poverty.
The first is to stop occupation. It has proved its inefficiency, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nobody can negate this fact; indeed, occupation is feeding hatred which is one of the principal causes of terrorism itself, furthermore the abuse and torture in the famous Abougharib, and Guantanamo bay prisons help terrorist organization to attract masses. Another sad reality, terrorism is spreading very fast, in fact, the last few years new targets were attacked, more dangerous; terrorists are using new techniques and targeting more victims than ever. Also many reports confirm sadly those facts, as published in AlterNet news magazine, “The war on terror is the leading cause of terrorism”. In another terms, war on terrorism has made the world more dangerous.
The second step is to promote dialogue. History had proven that attempting to force its values upon others had all failed; neither, dividing the world in good and bad civilizations had created only conflicts. We should look forward to universal values shared by all the humankind, and consider diversity as an opportunity to learn from the other. This way, we can have a better understanding of the others thought, faith, and values; as a result, hatred, stereotypes, and propaganda effects will reduce. Moreover, people will start empathizing with others, thinking for efficient solutions and working seriously to eradicate terrorism root...
