Assignment 1: Effects of Routing on
Current Communication Methods Used by Organizations
Pursuit and Retention of Customers
The Johnson Company seems like they are stuck in the early years of technology. Using analog phone lines, taking orders by hand, and advertising through the yellow pages. My recommendation, to start off with the phones first, would be to use VOIP phone services. Phone lines go down all the time, tons of dropped calls and angry customers. There are less dropped calls through VOIP lines than through POTS lines. Secondly, the orders by hand is a bad way to keep track of everyones order, then in turn, you lose track of inventory and how much you need or how much product you have left. It needs to all be computer based. You need a database set up specifically for taking orders and tracking them. If a customer calls in and you have no idea where their order is, because you lost the paper it was written down on, then you have an angry customer. Advertising should be done mostly through the computer, my suggestion would be social media. Nobody reads the phone book anymore, we google phone numbers these days rather than looking it up. People spend more time looking at their phones then paying attention to any of their surroundings. If they see a good price, and a popular, recommended company on their social sites, they will be interested and you will have another customer. To keep current customers updated, you can start collecting email addresses and send out new emails every month or so giving out new information about your products or services. With all this, you will be able to gain new customer and retain the customers you already have.
