Introduction
Up-North Fishing Outfitters (UNFO) is the premier source for fishing equipment in the Northern Michigan area. The corporate headquarters has determined that it may be good for business for UNFO to switch to an e-business model to help them reduce their costs, recognize additional revenue streams, and improve their customer service. This document will identify e-business and e-commerce web technologies to support the proposed implementation.
Emerging Technologies
One of the up-and-coming technologies that can be used for e-business is cloud technology. With the implementation of cloud computing UNFO can use internet-based server farms for its e-business and e-commerce needs rather than having the physical hardware. This will keep their server room relatively small and save money in new hardware and eventual upgrades to equipment. UNFO can lease the servers from a reputable 3rd party vendor to provide the services needed and the platform for our virtual machine to run on. This will free up our IT staff so we can focus on our internal infrastructure that we already have in place.
Using virtualization technology will be beneficial to UNFO’s needs. It will allow UNFO to maximize its hardware resources by implementing several virtual machines on one server. The benefit for this technology is that these virtual machines will act and behave as if they were standalone servers.
Web analytic tools are also a good way to assist UNFO so they can focus on their e-commerce website. These tools can analyze the flow of traffic to and from the website, what customers are looking at, and how long they are looking at the products we have. One of the most popular tools for this is Google Analytics.
