The Issue of Abortion

The concern of medical abortion continues to be one of the most controversial issues that have overwhelmed society for the past two decades. Abortion is the induced termination of pregnancy before the embryo or fetus is capable of survival. Two contrasting sides come into view when this issue arises. One side is “Pro-Life”, they oppose abortion, and the other side is “Pro-Choice”, they feel it is the right of the individual to make the decision for themselves. Personally I am “Pro-Choice”, I feel it is up to the woman to decide to have an abortion only if it is before 3 months into pregnancy, which is in effect by law. There are many logical reasons behind my choice. For instance the embryo is not a human being. Many women are not financially capable of raising a child. Some women are traumatically impregnated as a result of a rape attack and legalised abortions will and have stopped dangerous and unsanitary backstreet abortions. Every woman, man and human being should have the absolute right over their own body.

At this stage there is no heart beat and there is no human being killed. The embryo could not possibly survive independently of the mother, until it is approximately four months into the pregnancy, it is not yet an independent human being, but an attachment of the mother, and therefore she should be allowed to terminate it. I completely understand if a Pro-Life activist is angry about an abortion that takes place four to nine months into pregnancy, but someone being upset over an abortion before three months is absurd.

Some woman may not have the amenities and the money to raise a child. Why...
