1. Why do you think Persistence and Enthusiasm can be classified as strengths of courage?
Because you would have to be very courageous to be persistent in what you are going after in life. No matter how many times you did not succeed you keep trying and to me that takes courage. to keep going day after day. Enthusiasm also embodies courage because you have to keep a positive outlook in life to achieve you final goal.
2. Why does it take courage to possess these qualities?
It takes courage to posses these qualities because it’s easy to give up. Most people when faced with an obstacle stops or walks away. It takes courage to face your challenges by being persistent; not giving up a dream because you were told it wasn’t going to happen.
It takes courage to be enthusiastic when you’re being let down again. Most people crumble when they hear “no” or another door has closed. An enthusiastic person has to believe that their dream is not over, but they must find the right door.
Kakenya Ntaiya: A girl who demanded school.
Kakenya Ntaiya was a young lady who made a difference in her African village by building a school for girls. At the young age of twelve she showed true courage by making a deal with her father that she would undergo the traditional Maasai rite of passage of female circumcision if he would let her go to high school. Kakenya was subject to the traditions of her village in Enoosaen. By the age of five she was engaged to be married; at the age of twelve she had to participate in the female circumcision ceremony and to be married. Even at that young age Kakenya knew education was her way to a better life.
At the end of Kakenya high school year her father became ill. He could not tell her what to do so she applied to college and was accepted. The men in Kakenya village though the scholarship should go to a boy.
