Many writers nowadays incorporate ways of relating their books to the status quo of the lifestyles in which they currently live in. No exception to this exists in Gordon Korman’s Jake Reinvented, which depicts the story of a high school boy who brings himself, and his peers, into a mess of lie-driven drama. Jake Reinvented, without a doubt, accurately portrays the teenage and high school life today. Jake Reinvented accurately portrays today’s high school and teenage life due to its integration of the levels of social ‘coolness’, the collection of diverse people, and the truth behind high school life. Due to Korman’s rendering of the levels of social ‘coolness’, Jake Reinvented accurately portrays today’s teenage and high school life.
Korman’s reproduction of the levels of social ‘coolness’ causes an accurate representation of today’s teenage and high school life. When Rick Paradis, one of the main characters and the kicker for the school’s football team, came with Todd Buckley, the quarterback for the school’s football team, to a new kid’s party, Rick began to explain the social situation of Todd. Rick stated, “Todd's invited everywhere, and he brings who he pleases. Quarterback's privilege” (1). Saying this shows how popularity can affect social lives and situations. This accurately portrays today’s teenage and high school due to the fact that many schools and cliques run off of a system of popularity and social status. These levels of social ‘coolness’ can, in ways, directly relate to the existence of a massive amount of diverse people.
The presence of a diverse group of people in Jake Reinvented creates a concrete representation of teenage and high school life today. When Dipsy, the school’s passive socialite with a very unique personality, explained his social existence to Rick, a newfound light shed upon Dipsy in the eyes of Rick. Rick then went on to say, “I regarded him with a newfound respect. That was always the question with Dipsy - why?...
