As of right now, the world consist of seven billion people. The choices that we make each day effects if we continue to grow or begin to shrink. Out of many different countries the one that has everyone’s eyes is Japan. Japan is an island nation in located in the Pacific Ocean. It has high-rise-filled cities, imperial palaces, mountains national parks and thousands of shrines and temples. With these good sights, don’t be blinded by it. Japan is in danger of an exponentially shrinking population. Little is being done to save japan. Why hasn’t Japan done anything about this crisis?
In 2013, Eat Asia Forum states in their statistics that Japan lost about 244,000 citizens. The deaths are not due to sicknesses or accidents, actually the deaths are from old age. The countries birth rate is nowhere close to being able to balance out deaths. Most of their population consists of their elderly, ranging from about 65 or older. We’re not talking about commonly old people but these are the people that fought in the world wars. Since then the amount of annual births lowered and lowered. Now the births will not balance it all out.
Typically a family would have about 2 or 3 children. In this case, Japan only has an average of 1 child per family. The elderly outnumber the younger and the workers. Since most of the people are too old to work, the jobs that are needed to be done to run the economy and civilization in general are not being done. So of course the young ones are stuck doing all the work. And since their numbers are so little, the labor times are insane. Ranging around 12 to 13 hours a day. By that, basically the young workers don’t have the time to have a typical life. There’s no time to settle down, have a family, care for that family. If you have children you would have to drop them off at 24 hour day cares. The children spend more time at the daycares then they are with their actual parents.
