Some of the most influential and opinionated men in America’s history became famous at the start of the new nation. Of these men were Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, and both played major roles on impacting the new nation. Both of these men are known as superior politicians who wrote incredibly influential works, and transformed our government to what it is today. There works are well knows such as the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson and the Federalist papers by Alexander Hamilton. These men are both also credited for creating parties, while working under George Washington. Interestingly these men were also known as arch enemies as they often times had conflicting opinions on how the government should be run. The debate on who impacted the new nation more is close but overall in favor of Thomas Jefferson.

The opinions of these men are well documented and still apparent today. Thomas Jefferson was a firm believer in state rights and was against Federal government. The exact opposite opinion Hamilton had as he favored a strong federal government. Jefferson’s beliefs on this issue started the Jeffersonian party which dominated the beginning of the 1800’s. The beliefs included separating church and government matters completely and that money was tight and it was very important to never be in debt. Again these opinions are opposite of Hamilton’s beliefs.

The overall impact of each man’s beliefs was and still is huge. Thomas Jefferson first impacted the new nation by writing arguably the most important document ever in The Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson then began his work under George Washington as Sec. of State and his climb through politics continued as he went to Vice President and then became President.
