Why do you think when Jefferson borrowed Locke’s ideas, he changed the rights of men from “life, liberty, and property” to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”?
Thomas Jefferson, lawyer, was the first writer of the Declaration of Independence.
Under the Enlightenment’s enlighten, Jefferson objected slavery. He claimed all men should be equal. John Locke who had been part of the movement known as the Enlightenment was a philosopher. They thought human were able to develop a better society. He thought people’s rights as unalienable rights. Nobody can take away.
“No Taxation with no representation” The socioeconomic was filled with varies of Acts, such as Stamp Act, Townshend Acts etc. However, there was no delegate from colonies. To independent became the main voice in America. “People willingly come together in a social contract—an agreement in which the people consent to obey a government so long as it safeguards their natural rights” To secure people’s rights, Governments are instituted among Men. When the right of the People alter or to abolish it, people instituted a new Government, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their safety and happiness. Pursuit of happiness was the foundation of people’s life.\
What positive and negative trends that emerged in Northern colonies during the 1700s do you think still affect the United States today?
Firstly, we know that since 1700s there are about 585,000 Europeans migrated to America. Till now there are still more and more people migrated to America. Maybe
