In this article it talks about how New Hampshire has become the first state to repeal a law involving the notification of a parent when a minor is going to get an abortion. Governor Lynch signed this particular bill this past Friday and it has gotten mixed reviews as you can assume it would. Not only is it the first state that has repealed this law but it is also the only state that has this law repealed.
Although I believe that abortion is not right and goes against my own personal beliefs, the one thing that kept it the least most acceptable was that for minors the choice was still left mostly to the parents. By this bill being signed, now the parents might not even be informed that their daughter had or is pregnant and is planning on getting an abortion. How can you take something so vital and precious as a human life and have its life left in the hands of a nervous wreck of a teenager who doesn’t know what is best for her. A parent has the right until their child is 18 to be informed in any aspect of their child’s life. Since all the other aspects of a minor’s life is left up to the parent how could something so important as abortion be left in the hands of this minor.
In conclusion John Lynch should have given this repeal a lot more thought before signing the bill. Now every time a minor is deciding to have an abortion because she is pregnant and doesn’t have to inform her parents that she is pregnant. There is no way of her parents to talk to her and get a definite conclusion if an abortion is the right move. In retrospect this repeal could have a large affect on the abortion rate and minors making poor decisions when it comes to having an abortion or not.
