Jarrell Robinson Ms. Morrow Compare/Contrast 09 December 2008 Kansas City Kansas City, Missouri, is often abbreviated as "KCMO” or simply "KC" (both abbreviations often refer to the metro area). It is officially nicknamed the City of Fountains. With over 200 fountains, the city claims to have second most in the world, just behind Rome. The city also has more boulevards than any city except Paris and has been called "Paris of the Plains." Informal nicknames include BBQ_ Capital of the World_, and residents are known as Kansas Citians. It is sometimes referred to colloquially as the Heart of America as it is near both the population center of the United States and the geographic center of the 48 contiguous states. Country Club Plaza, Gates BBQ, and Kansas City Power and Light district are all attractions for people who are unfamiliar with the Kansas City, Missouri. First, the Country Club Plaza is a really beautiful are and is one of my favorite places to go in Kansas City. The Plaza is an outdoor museum of romantic Spanish architecture and European art where people actually live and work every day amid its beauty. It was designed in 1922 as the nation's first suburban shopping district. Since then, its open-air public art gallery has continuously added to its collection, with fountains, sculptures and murals that bring to the heart of our city the very best of the Old World and the new. Second, Gates Barbeque is definitely my favorite because of their good food and sauce. Gates Bar-B-Q is receiving national recognition due in large part to the strategic location of Kansas City. Being the hub of the nation, Kansas City attracts various groups of people from throughout the country for a variety of reasons including national political conventions, public officials conventions, business, industry, fraternal and professional conventions, as well as the American Royal, to name a few.
