In the book David: A Man of passion & Destiny Charles Swindoll walks you through the life of King David. He paints you the perfect image of a man that makes mistakes and has many character flaws but still finds favor in the eyes of the Lord. Dr. Swindoll shows us page after page the depth and insight of King David’s story. This book will open your eyes to David’s story as a young child all the way to his death no matter how many times you have read the Old Testament.
Dr. Charles R. Swindoll is senior pastor at Stonebriar Community Church, author, educator, and the bible teacher on the internationally syndicated radio program Insight for Living. After graduating from high school, He studied mechanical engineering while working for Reed Roller Bit Company in Houston, Texas. Swindoll then fulfilled his military service obligation with the United States Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge in 1959, he attended Dallas Theological Seminary, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude four years later. He and his wife, Cynthia, have four children. Swindoll was ordained into the ministry in 1963. He has held senior pastorates in Waltham, Massachusetts, Irving, Texas, and Fullerton, California. He started his current senior pastorate in Frisco in 19981.
This book not only shows David as the strong king of God’s people but Dr. Swindoll takes you back to a time when David was merely a young boy taking care of his father’s sheep. He takes you on a side by side journey with the most beloved King of Israel making you feel every joy and every pain that David experienced. Even though I have read the Old Testament and knew the story of King David this book opened my eyes to so many different lessons that I clearly overlooked. The author also went into depth exploring David’s many character flaws and the changes that took place as he grew in age.
