THE PROPER WEARING OF THE ACADEMY UNIFORM – INSTRUCTOR JENNINGS.

On January 18, 2007, I centered my nameplate on the left side. The Policy and Procedure Manual Chapter 8 Uniform Standards Section 7 Name Plates states, “The name badge shall be displayed on the shirt centered just above the right pocket.” I failed to place my nameplate correctly.

As a Verdugo Fire Academy cadet, I am proud to wear my cadet uniform at the Glendale Community College training facility and classroom. The Encarta Dictionary states that pride is the correct level of respect for the importance and value of our personal character, life, efforts or achievements; to obtain personal satisfaction and pleasure from a particular source, especially something accomplished or a quality possessed.

As a Verdugo Fire Academy cadet, cadets are representing firefighters. Firefighters are representative of the community. Maintaining a professional look at all times and showing confidence in your appearance and uniform supports the firefighter family.

All cadets are to look professional and uniform at all times. The Verdugo Fire Academy cadet uniform consists of:

Pants Navy blue Dickey pants, style #1574NV
Shirt Navy blue Dickey shirt, style #874NV
Boots Plain high tops, six inches or more, black, with safety toe and sole. Boots must be capable of taking a shine.
Socks Black athletic tube socks, colored or colored stripes cannot be worn.
Belt Chambers leather (1 5/8”) plain black uniform belt with a chrome, square buckle. Belts must be polished.
Undershirt Navy blue, Academy, crew neck. The back of the shirt
will read VERDUGO FIRE ACADEMY. The front will have
the Academy Logo
