Whenever two or more people are together, differences are bound to be and Learning Team A is no exception. To improve performance, the team developed a Learning Team Charter that contained fields for individual contact information, individual skill inventory, team goals, team rules, and conflict management. Learning Team A members completed a Jungian 16 type personality assessment, listening skills assessment, and Do I Trust Others? Assessment. Team Members created the Learning Team Charter using their assessments as well as their personal remarks about job performance and skill set. Although the Learning Team Charter does not fully eliminate the possibility of conflict or ensure a high quality team performance, it does improve the overall performance of the team by highlighting strengths and development opportunities in each member and, by giving the members a measure for feedback.
Each member of the team listed out the skills they could contribute to the team and the skills they needed to develop. The skill inventory showed instances where members were strong in areas the other members needed to develop. This helped team performance because the team could make informed decisions on which members could handle certain tasks, and which members would be available to teach members the skills they needed. For example, some members indicated a need for technology and computer skill development, whereas other members indicated a high knowledge of these skills. Writing skills, presentation skills, and listening skills were areas lacked by some but strong in others. Two members of the team showed low scores in the listening skills assessment, and one member had an average ability (Learning Team A, n.d.).
