People have many different ways of expressing and celebrating their transition from childhood to adulthood. Usually, teenagers celebrate with a big birthday party when they turn eighteen. However, at this happy moment, teenagers cannot celebrate with a glass of champagne because shamefully, they are not twenty-one. The topic of drinking has always been controversial and interesting, as every year, people question whether or not the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen. Some believe that society should keep the legal drinking age at twenty-one because eighteen- year-olds are immature and binge drinking among teenagers is a rampant issue. On the other hand, others argue that by decreasing the age limit, younger drinkers would learn to be more responsible by school education so the number of binge drinkers would decrease. In the article “Drinking Age” by Keith Cavey, he asserts that lowering the drinking age to 18 won’t stop binge drinking because college students see drinking as an experience in college. Also, he claims, lowering the drinking age will make it easier for minors to get alcoholic beverages from seniors in high school. In addition, Cavey argues that 18 year olds are not mature enough to have a beer. Personally, I believe that there is no single moment or age that defines when a teen becomes an adult or when he is mature enough. Nevertheless, if I were told to pick a reasonable drinking age, I would choose 18 because it will stop students from binge drinking, give society a chance to educate them about responsible drinking manner and allow them to experience the necessary step along lives.
