Letter Writing 8 Dear Minister, Today, I work as one of Richard Arkwright’s employees in his wig factory. Yesterday, I worked peacefully at home making my own clothes to sell to merchants which need the products of my incredible talents. I am writing this letter in hope that you will consider Arkwright’s changes to our working ways. Honestly, what people call his genius system, the Factory System, has its numerous advantages, for both merchants and workers. One advantage is that it provides us workers with a promised set amount of money called wages while when I worked at home, I would sometimes make not a single pound and in other days, I would make so much money that I felt sorry for the eager shoppers since I didn’t have a lot in stock. Second, we have someone, called a boss, there to take control over hundreds of people at the same time. Finally, our work is made significantly easier since we could use technology not able to fit in our homes and that they make life so much easier due to their easy use. But, the Factory System had its disadvantages which would surely outnumber the advantages. We had to move from home to get to work and we would have a time in which if we passed, we would be late and lose some of our wages meaning like it is torture while at home, we were the boss around and we could work at will. Small, young children would be put in there to work rather than go get a proper education. Most disturbing and dangerous, we aren’t safe. Some of us lose arms, legs and finger due to the fact that there aren’t ay safety equipment or rules and even some of us die at the hands of the water frame which is truly sad when the boss gives no care and tells us to continue working as if nothing happened. I dearly wish that you take this situation in consideration so that actions can be taken and many lives could be saved before hand. I hope you agree with my side and put an end to Arkwright’s reign of terror. I hope this letter finds you and your loved...
