Life Goes on

Throughout your lifetime you will encounter experiences that can have a great affect on you. We eventually learn to move on from these experiences and realize that you wouldn’t be who you are today without them. In the book Couchez de Soleil a St. Tropez, written by Danielle Steel, we read about three couples that are all best friends that go through some very tough times. With a death of a best friend, cheating husbands and , the couples eventually learn to move on throughout life despite some of the circumstances each have encountered with the help of their friends.

In the first chapter, we learn that all three couples; Pascale and Robert, Anne and John, and Diana and Eric are all best friends. When celebrating New Years Eve, the couples decide to get away for the summer and spend a lovely month in the south of France in St. Tropez. A few weeks after the New Year, Anne has a terrible accident and dies from a heart attack, which deeply affects her husband of thirty-eight years, John. To John, going away in the summer is not an option because he would only think about his dead wife Anne. With great persuasion, Diana and Pascale convince John that it would be good for him to get away from everything and still come with them in the summer to St.Tropez, since he paid for a third of it anyway. Before going away, John meets a new woman named Gwen who is a famous actress. To his surprise, he finds that he starts to have feelings for her even though he misses Anne. When speaking to Gwen in St. Tropez, John figures out that in life there are always new beginnings and that you need to move on from bad experiences. “It never occurred to me that I’d lose Anne. I never ever thought there would be anyone else in my life again. Just when you think you have a sure thing in your hand, it all falls apart and you have to start at the beginning.
