Optoelectronics :
Optoelectronics is the study and application of electronic devices that source, detect and control light, usually considered a sub-field of photonics. Optoelectronic devices are electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducers, or instruments that use such devices in their operation.
In this context, light often includes invisible forms of radiation such as gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet and infrared, in addition to visible light.
Photonics :
The science of photonics includes the generation, emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification, detection and sensing of light. The term photonics thereby emphasizes that photons are neither particles nor waves - they are different in that they have both particle and wave nature. It basically covers all technical applications of light over the whole spectrum from ultraviolet over the visible to the near, mid and far infrared. Most applications, however, are in the range of the visible and near infrared light.
Types Of Photonic Devices :
It can be of four types:
Light emitting diodes are diodes that emit visible light when electricity is applied, much like a light bulb. They work in the voltage range 1.5 to 3.5 V . LED’s glow when seen through camera.
b. Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER)
The term LASER is an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. It is a device that creates and amplifies a narrow, intense beam of coherent light. Laser light is usually spatially coherent, which means that the light either is emitted in a narrow, low-divergence beam, or can be converted into one with the help of optical components such as lenses. It emits light (electromagnetic radiation) through a process called stimulated emission.
