Like Mexicans

Everyone thinks; it is part of our nature. Our quality of life and what we produce, or do we build depends precisely on the quality of our thinking. Critical thinking is that mode of thinking about any subject, content or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of their thinking taking control of the structures inherent in the act of thinking and when subjected to intellectual standards.
In the essay “Like Mexicans,” In my opinion, Gary Soto’s grandmother it is a poor critical thinker for the reason that she draws conclusion based on her personal life and not in relevant and accurate information. She thinks Gary should become a barber because they made good money and listened to the radio all day, but she had conclude this fact by what she once saw in a barber shop and not in what reality is, if one evaluate information with care, one can conclude a barber is not only making good money but depends in how good they do their job, and they can listen to the radio all day depending in the rules of their workplace. Gary’s grandmother advised him to marry a Mexican girl for the simple reason that Mexican girl could cook, and second, they act like women, not a man, but we all know that there are several women who can cook, and it doesn’t matter where they came from. Gary’s grandmother doesn’t have knowledge and either a skeptical frame of mind.
Other three characters in the “Like Mexicans” essay that are poor critical thinkers are Gary’s mother, his brother and Scott due to the fact that they don’t approach life thoughtfully with thinking skills that help them analyze, interpret, and evaluate information. Gary’s mother and brother also wanted him to marry a Mexican woman, they wanted him to marry someone of his own social class- a poor girl.
