A list of the functions of literacy leadership that is evident at the school, and examples that demonstrate how each functions is fulfilled?
Every school needs a teacher to lead and face the complex challenges of the modern era. Leaders are those who value people and work.Techers that are leaders in their respective areas like school, colleges and universities have to broaden and diversify their daily work. Certain functions are quite evident in schools that are related to literacy leadership these include vision for learning, social advocacy, Assessment program. Further more teachers must possess an attribute of continuous learning and leading.
Teachers must develop a specific vision for learning in which they are quite clear about their goals and their current tasks. For e.g. If a teacher is willing to lead from the front and he/she is unaware of his/her goals then it would be very difficult to fulfill the desired tasks.Similary a literacy leader must steward its vision after implementing it. Another important aspect of literacy leader is of social advocacy i.e. a literacy leader must possess teaching ethics and a proper diversity in his/her approach. For e.g. if a teacher doesn’t changes his approach and doesn’t diversify then his/her students wouldn’t be satisfied with him/her. In schools teachers must give individual attention to each student and can become a mentor for them .Furthermore teachers can help students specially in school in their general matters and get to know them better. Thus teachers that are leaders should have a different approach and vision; in schools they should implement new strategies and plan out the box to achieve their desired goals (Mc Andrew 20005).
