Literature reflects all communities along with the individuals in the societies. Settings, culture, beliefs and the context makes up the attributes among some of the things that play an integral part on the illustration on how literature reflects and demonstrates communities. The language from the literature helps explain how it feels to live in certain conditions. This allows literature to create an atmosphere that relates and reflects communities. Literature that is defined by the culture aspect, gives details about such fascinating and affluent information or context. Certain documents, and words used in literature can help the reader understand and describe the sense of the community being read in the story. My focus is to give a perception about literature that proves how literature reflects communities along with the cultures, individuals and society. Literature uses styles of language to give off a certain perception on what it feels like to be a part of situations and conditions in apposed to just only using language to characterize conditions.
Let’s look at the language in “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara (DiYanni, R., 2007). “The Lesson”, is a story that uses language such as slang, to demonstrate conversations, conditions and situations among a group of African-American people in southern state communities which is still a common practice among African-American people today. In “The Lesson”, Toni Cade Bambara uses this type of language to allow the reader to get familiar with the type of culture that is being portrayed. Starting of page 428, you will find words that relate to the language that was used. Words like “cept”, “Flyboy”, “outta”, and phrases like, “Whatcha gonna do with a microscope, fool?” (Page 429) and “But ain’t nobody gonna beat me at nuthin.” (Page 432).
