Erma Bombeck writes in “Live Each Moment for What It’s Worth,” about what she believes is an extraordinary philosophy that was introduced to her by a friend. This viewpoint is a “Seize the moment” outlook on life. Although the harshness of our unforgiving reality hits us on a daily basis, I try to live by the “seize the moment” way of thinking as much as possible. Depending on how you view this attitude, it can be an advantage, or a major setback.
Bombeck stated that she would call her sister to go out to lunch, only to be replied by tons of pointless excuses. She eventually passed away, still to never have one lunch date with her sister. This particular incident hit me emotionally. She passed on lunch for what? I could not imagine it was only because her hair was dirty, or it was Monday. Sadly but truly, it was. I try and live my life so that I do not have that regret in the back of my mind. I am aware that anything can happen to a loved one or myself any day. We do not ever know what is going to happen, so living in the moment, learning from the past, and preparing for the future is the best way to take on each day. Seeing people worry about the simplest of things irritates me. It is almost as if they are living in an entirely different humanity, where they are caught up in the stress of adulthood and the “grown up” life, not enjoying all that life has to offer.
I wish each person would take pleasure in what makes them laugh, smile, be happy, and cherish all that life has to offer. For me, it is almost effortless to make me smile and become super excited. Endless laughs, breathtaking sites, and life changing experiences are what I live for. Staying home, and missing out on that “one” date with a friend is not going to get me anywhere, or teach me anything. When I look at life in general, I want to remember all of the amazing memories I had, not always stressing over self-image, work, and the “we will” attitude.
