“Abracadabra!” I watched as the lay was split in half and wondered, how can they do that? When did magic start? Who was the greatest magician all time? Can anyone be a magician? What will magic be like in the future? Magic is a special art. Why?
Magic is recorded back to 2600 B.C. That is 4 thousand six hundred years ago. It was from a hieroglyphic in an Egyptian Tomb were it shows the cups and balls trick being performed. The first magician was a guy named Dedi. He would decapitate birds and restore their health. One time he was able to do the same thing with an ox .In the Middle Ages Europeans had a strong belief in magic. They searched for the philosopher’s stone which would change metals into gold and the elixir of life which would cure sickness and make your life longer. Then in1600 scientists revealed that magic was not real. That it was our mind playing tricks on us.
One of the greatest magicians in the past was Harry Houdini. Some of his most famous tricks were the strait jacket escape, the Chinese water torture cell, the vanishing elephant, the metamorphosis, and the milk can escape. For the straitjacket escape Houdini was hung upside down from a building and escaped a straitjacket. On the Chinese water torture cell his feet were locked in stocks, then hung from his ankles with a restraint brace, and lowered in a tank full of water, which was locked. In the Vanishing elephant he made an elephant disappear on stage. The elephant was led into a cabinet with curtains. The curtains closed then opened and the elephant disappeared. In the metamorphosis Houdini was handcuffed behind his back, put into a tied sack, and locked in a box. His wife told the audience to count to three. When the audience said three, Houdini and his wife switched places. For the milk can escape Houdini was put in a milk can full of water and escaped. After a great career Houdini died in Halloween 1926 from a disease in his appendix because he was punched in the stomach by a college...
