The game is played by four people who sit on each side of a square table. Each player takes 34 pieces of tiles and arranged them in 17 stacks of two, which are to be pushed forward to form a square like a city wall.

Let’s start Opening gate
At the beginning of the game the chief/ dealer is decided by throwing the cice once more. The chief / dealer is always considered as East. The total number of the sopots on both dice dtermines on wich side of the square is ready to open. Each player takes a turn picking up a tile from the wall and then discarding a tile by throwing it into the center. If that tile was desired, player should announce out loud and take that one to form his own meld. The purpose of drawing and discarding the tiles is to form four sets of three-tile-combination and one extra pair 對子(duì zi). The combination could either be three identical tiles 坎(kǎn) or three tiles in squence according to their patterns. Play continues this way until one player has a completing hand. At this point a player will call out “和 (hú)”, and reveal their hand. This ends the hand, and scoring commences 順子 (shùn zi) . There are two different ways that this order of play can be interrupted: Whenever a player draws a flower or season, it is announced and then placed to the side (it is not considered as a part of the hand but can earn a bonus point for the winning hand) and the last tile of the wall is drawn as a replacement tile so that the player has the fourteen pieces needed before their discard. This may happen successively in a player’s turn. When a player discards a tile, any other player may “call” or “bid” for it in order to complete a meld (a certain set of tiles) in his own hand.
