Malathion Assessment - My Vote

Malathion Assessment

I vote to not use the Malathion. The potential health risks are far greater than the risks from the West Nile Virus. A person who is not familiar with the times of the spraying of this pesticide or those who accidently ingest it could end up with a variety of illnesses or even death. These numbers far outweigh those who could catch the West Nile Virus. There is no known evidence to date of how much exposure to this pesticide could lead to illness or to death, and the risk of even minimal accidental exposure at this time would be a risk to our city. Even if programs were available to the public that educated them on the risks and precautions how do you stop the animals from eating the plants that contain residue, then after the one week precautionary period a person so happens to hunt and eat this animal. How do you educate the fish in the stream or the birds in the wetlands? They are a part of our town as well. The probability of a person contacting an illness is too unknown at this time. There is no way to tell if a child who inhales the pesticide from the air after a spraying will end up with something like a cold, or something more fatal. What are the effects of drinking the water after it has come into contact with the pesticide after it is sprayed? How often will the pesticide have to be sprayed? How will the tourists who love our town know the precautions to take or what time the pesticides are sprayed? There are too many unanswered questions at this time to really make an informed decision about this chemical pesticide so why would we put our town at risk over something that we know so little about? How would the people who maintain our wetlands work after a spray? What about the elderly and the children is there risk greater than that of a healthy adult even after a precautionary period? What are the long term effects of having this pesticide sprayed? Will it eventually kill off the plant life that is comes into contact with?...
