Manage Your Stress

What is stress? Stress is a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes you to have physical or mental tension. This can be caused by taking a really hard test, having an argument with a friend, or maybe even a death in your family. There are many reasons for why we have stress in our lives and there are also many ways to deal with this stress. Three positive ways to deal with stress include meditation, walking, and reading a book. By using these three activities you could be off to a stress free life in no time.
Meditating can be a very relaxing process. During the process of meditation you can either choose one specific thing to think about or nothing at all. If other thoughts begin to creep into your mind during the process just go back to focusing on the one thought. Then you breathe in deep enough so that you get enough oxygen and then while you breathe out, without straining, you relax all of your muscles. This process can be done sitting or lying down in a relaxed position. I tried this technique myself and it proved to be very effective. I found myself relaxing bit by bit and eventually I felt completely relaxed. It does take a little bit of time before achieving relaxation.
It is proven that taking a 20-30minute walk can have the same calming effect as a mild tranquilizer. The walk does not need to be brisk and you do not need to really push yourself, a comfortable stroll would work just as well. Throughout the walk you are supposed to meditate which helps you to reduce anxiety and stress. You meditate by paying attention to your footsteps, while counting and visualizing each number of steps as you go along and if any other thoughts enter your mind just shrug them off and continue counting. I tried this activity to help deal with stress and it too proved to be quite helpful because of the fact that you get the time to disconnect and just do some meditation and get some fresh air at the same time.
