Management and leadership within an organization present two different approaches to handling the organizational goals; however, their roles and responsibilities are on the same track to achieve organizational growth whether domestically or globally. Overcoming obstacles in the globalization of a company is one of management’s functions. Determining how to create and maintain a healthy work environment is ability that an effective manager and leader should posses. Analyzing Masco Builder Cabinet Group (BCG) allows a picture to be distinguished in the roles and responsibilities of management and leaders within an organization (Smith, 2010).
With BCG, the management and leadership team assume two different duties that work to achieve the organizational goals. Management with BCG focuses upon the innovation and technological advances that would attain these goals more efficiently (Smith, 2010). Whereas, the leadership team focuses upon implementing training, tools, and procedures that would allow the production team to accomplish daily requirements which lead to the completion of the organizational goals. Management or managers will focus upon “systems and structures” (Bateman and Snell, 2009). This puts the manager at looking at the budgets and production outputs versus the leaders who focus on the people (Prussakov, 2010). Although both look acquire the same goal, which is 100% productivity, the leader will focus on the behaviors of the team and their adherence to policy and procedure (Bateman and Snell, 2009). Managers have a short range view and tend to rely upon control to achieve goals (Prussakov, 2010). The leader has a long range perspective and inspires trust among the team to accomplish goals. The leader looks at implementing change to acquire consistency among the team which can prove to increase the long-term performances.
