Prepared Environment
At birth the child does not enter into a natural environment but that of a “supranatural environment”, which men have built to suit their needs, an environment rather unsuitable for the development of the child. The only natural and perfect environment that nature provides is the mother’s womb. Nature ensures the best conditions necessary for the child within the womb, the nourishment and the warmth of a healthy mother to live within her. The main aim of the cell within the womb is to acquire the maturity of the new born child to make the most difficult adjustments of all in the outside world. The child that was once protected is now exposed to the harsh light and sounds, assaults and hostility of the outside world. Maria Montessori refers to this period as the most ‘vigorous’ of man’s life.
