Recreational Marijuana should be legalized.
I strongly believe that Marijuana should be legalized for recreational use in every state. But there is a war going on drugs in many states, and the laws are so absurd that they can put a person with marijuana possession or distribution up to 30 years in jail. About 40 percent of the people who offended marijuana law are under the age of 21. The federal government raised the budget to fight the war on drugs to 11 billion in 2000. Approximately 840 billion dollars are spent every year to support and maintain all the prisoners and arrested people for offending marijuana. And most of these people who are being sent to jail are non-violent offenders and it is most likely that these people who were non-violent marijuana user will come out as violent criminals.
And the war on drugs is working out just like the prohibition of alcohol did, when early in 19 century the United States government made alcohol illegal and the crime rates went up because more and more people were making alcohol, using, and selling it illegally. The number of violent crimes went up also because people were fighting and killing each other because of it. The alcohol prohibition was ended after the government realized that it is just non-sence to make alcohol illegal. The similar things are going on right now because of marijuana in our days too not because of use of marijuana but because it is illegal. Looks like the federal government is never going to learn from its history.
Even though marijuana is illegal it’s still widely accessible to people especially to teenagers because the can buy marijuana out on the streets from anybody who is selling them, marijuana has become easier to buy than alcohol, because alcohol now has a regulation that makes people under the age of 21 are not allowed to consume, and it is not going to be sold to them either.
