After reading and watching Dr King’s speech “I have a dream”, I thought to myself, did America get better or worse? Did Dr. King’s dream come true, or is there still a long way until it does. We have made a major progress in the racial problem, which was a very big issue during Dr. King’s time. Martin Luther King’s Dream did not completely come true, but his dream is helping America slowly progress. The only way to take steps forward is to all stand together and promote racial & social tolerance, and that way we will be closer to the good man’s dream. In this paper, I am going to quote Dr. King, and state whether America progressed or backtracked in that issue. Overall, Dr Martin Luther King’s Dream still resonates and influences many politicians and senators today. However, the fact that in the presidential election of 2008, two presidential candidates were using King’s message reflects the failure of America to achieve these goals of “I have a dream”.

One of Dr. Kings most memorable lines from the “I have a dream” speech is “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."” Forty-Five years later, we have lots of work to do to create the much-loved society of his dream, for although the improvement we have made during the last four decades, people of color are still being denied many employment and educational opportunities in our society. Until today, many minorities experience incidents of racial violence.

Dr. Martin Luther King says in his outstanding speech in Washington D.C, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” He speaks of an America where people will be judged not by the color of their skin, but by their personality and character. This is where we America made a major step in progress....
