Media Summary

While starting week one I have to be honest I am a bit intimidated and overwhelmed at just the thought of “accounting”. I am not a fan and never have been. It not only has a lot to do with numbers but there are lots of rules and laws that need to be learned and the risk for not following the guidelines can be very harsh. There were several ways of learning the material in week one. The traditional way of course by reading the chapters and even though this provides lots of knowledge it can also become a bit overwhelming because although I am reading the material and taking in the information its not as easy as it would be if I was watching a video or seeing it in person for myself. That leads us to my second method of learning in our first week of class, which are the videos. I have to say the class discussions are great too because you can view other peoples opinion and takes on what they have learned but videos talk about the material while recapping, showing examples and you’re able to sit back and listen as oppose to reading and then comprehending what you just read. I have also learned that taking notes on what I am watching tends to help too. Creating an outline and recapping the information when the video goes over the summary of the information is a great resource to ensure you didn’t miss any important facts. In the videos we were also shown examples of actual companies and given reasons as to why accounting is down the way that it is. Where if you were just reading you would have to depend on the class discussions. A lot of people including myself are better at visual learning and that is where the videos come in handy.
