Memory Article Analysis
This paper is about memory analysis. Memory analysis is important to cognitive psychology because it impacts individual’s daily lives. This paper will give a brief description of three different articles found on memory distortions, repressed memories, and autobiographical memory. The nature of memory distortion will be examined, the controversy associated with recovered repressed memories will be explained, and the concept of autobiographical memory will be analyzed.
Description of Memory Distortions
Distorting memories is a process that people cognitively create memories of events in his or her lives. These memories are not people’s reality however the memories are a part of their normalcy. In the article “Memory distortion: an adaptive perspective,” it does a good job illustrating several ways people use memory distortion to adapt to their environment.
The article also stated “people distort their memories through imagination inflation, gist-based and associative memory errors, and post-event misinformation. This reflects the adaptive cognitive processes that contribute to the efficient functioning of memory.” This means people are choosing to distort memory because he or she struggle with facing their true lives story so they factiously create one in which he or she is satisfied with.
Description of Repressed Memories
In life when people experience wanting feeling, they look to hold on to those memories for as long as they can. For example when people get married they want to chesire those memories as they are filled with priceless moments. The responds to unwanting memories are slightly different. This occurs when people attempt to repress their memories, as they block that memory or memories out of their mind.
