Subj: PENDING SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION CASE ICO MS. VIRGINIA POLLARD
Mr. Moore:
This memorandum is to notify you that a former Teddy’s Supplies employee, Ms. Virginia Pollard, has filed a sexual discrimination charge against Teddy’s Supplies, inc. through the New Jersey Commission on Human Rights in November 2008. Ms. Pollard’s employment with Teddy’s was terminated in October 2008, resulting from an internal company investigation which determined she had violated the company’s personal conduct policy. Among Ms. Pollard’s claims are that she was repeated subjected to numerous instances of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by her male co-workers while she was assigned to the main warehouse facility. Ms. Pollard was reassigned to duty in the main warehouse from her previous position as a cashier and clerk at the West Orange branch location after it was determined she was found to be making excessive personal phone calls during regular business hours.
An internal investigation of these charges has discovered that Ms. Pollard has never filed a formal written complaint with her Supervisor or through the company’s website regarding the unfair treatment she claims she has been subject to, although she states she did on one occasion make her concerns known to her Supervisor, Mr. Steve King. She also states Mr. King failed to take her claim serious, and instead suggested that she “get over herself” and “grow some balls”. Ms. Pollard does claim that she did on one occasion attempt to file an anonymous complaint on the company website, but that on the day she tried, the website was not functioning.
