Midterm exam

Please read the instructions before starting the exam.

The midterm exam consists of four short answer essay questions and one long essay question.

You are allowed to use your textbook, but do not use the internet on the exam. If you use the internet, I will consider this cheating and you will receive a zero on the exam. I will not tolerate any plagiarism. If you do plagiarize, I will give you a zero on the exam. Please be certain to read over my guidelines on what constitutes "plagiarism" on the course syllabus. You should not copy and paste sentences or phrases from the textbook, nor should you quote the textbook. For the exam, you need to be able to communicate your historical knowledge using your own words.

The exam must be handed in to Dropbox no later than midnight.

Short answer essay

Requirements: You must write at the very least one paragraph. I expect each paragraph to be seven sentences or more. Be as descriptive as possible. Be sure to write a clear, organized response with an argument or topic sentence that is supported by evidence (historical facts). An essay demonstrates not only your knowledge of the facts, but, more importantly, it conveys you understanding of the historical facts in a broader context.

Very important tip: When writing an historical essay, each supporting sentence should be historically descriptive and should strengthen your argument.

1. Compare and contrast the lasting contributions of the Sumerians, Jews, Phoenicians, Egyptians and Indo-Europeans. Which culture do you believe made the most significant contributions? Why? (ch2 and ch3) [The first part of the answer on compare/contrast can be in list format. The second part of the answer should be about two sentences and include an argument and supporting evidence.]
