2.1Independent Learning
Work Based or Distance Learning is by its very nature, a solitary pursuit. Location, schedule, time constraints, and other factors combine to isolate the student, and the ability to learn independently is paramount for success.
One of the major differences between Work Based Learning Students and normal undergraduates is that they tend to come from an older demographic. Whilst this may distance them from previous formal education and learning, it does imbue them with a great deal of life experience which can be used as an aid to learning. The lack of a formal degree does not preclude their acquisition of educational credit and accumulated experience, and professional skills gained point indicate that they can be described as lifelong learners (Holly McCracken Kathy L Guthrie DATE)

The aim of this inventory is to help you to think about your approach to learning. Everyone is unique and there is no ‘right’ approach to learning. By learning how we learn and by exploring new and different approaches to learning it is possible to become even more effective learners. We hope that this tool will help to stimulate your learning.
