My Courtyard House
The house was located at the community residential area with one large rice field opposite to it. Walking into the red front door, there was a vast courtyard with two tall longan trees on the left and right sides. The house was built up by the cement, brick and wood which had only one layer. Inside the house were the living room, two bedrooms on both sides and the study room at the back. The kitchen was in the right side behind the bedroom. In addition, the bathroom was set up outside at the rear small yard with the short mango tree. It would become a horrible time for me and my sister to take a bath at night to for fear of some wild cats jumping into my house and walking around the bathroom. However, it was still the house that warm in winter and cool in summer. And the most important, the excellent place for children to play.
The courtyard in my house always attracted many neighbors and children to come and do different activities such as chatting under the longan trees, riding the bicycles or playing games. In the evening, we usually just sat on the ground, looking into the sky and listening to the song of nature from insects during the four seasons. When summer came, the logans would become mellow and juicy that neighbors nearby were looking forward to helping my family to pick them into the baskets and then shared with each other. The courtyard sometimes would also be a suitable place to have parties on some special holidays like setting the fireworks on Moon Festival and having the family reunion on New Year’s Eve. This courtyard seemed to be very popular all year and as if the happy moment would last all the time.
Now that I have moved to the new house and that traditional courtyard house has been tore down after we had move out. The appearances and the sights in that house of what we had done during 18 years would remain in our hearts forever. This house has made me live with warmth, play with safety and happiness and...
