My Ideal Conditions for Writing There are few beginning writers or studentswho haven’t asked themselves when the ideal times and conditions are for writing. Many people who have been writing for some time even ask themselves the same thing. Have you ever noticed though, that some people can set down and have great writing luck, every time? I’m not a writer nor do I enjoy writing but for me it is this: There are rarely “ideal’ times and conditions for writing. Instead, I key in on the “most” ideal times and conditions. Meaningif these conditions exist, my chances of success are better when I try to write. Even the question of what the most ideal times and conditions for writing can be difficult to answer, though, because of a few important factors for me: What are the conditions when I begin to write? What type of writing am I writing; an essay, term paper, letter or a memo? Where am I writing at; in an office, in a coffee shop,on an airplane, or at home? This allsounds complex, but it really isn’t. The condition, type of writing, and place where writing takes place simply combine to dictate the most ideal times and conditions for my writing. The first factor that dictatesmy writing is condition. We all have ideal conditions for writing but when I start to write, the T.V. or radio has to be on or some other type of background noise. The background noise can’t be too loud, just loud enough that it isn’t distracting and there isn’tcomplete silence. It has to be something I would like to watch, though; reruns of things like The Family Guy, Comedy Shows or favorite horror movies are the best. I also need the right temperature in order to write. If I’m too hot, then I get tired, bored and then fall asleep as I’m writing. If it’s too cold then I can’t concentrate, lose interest, and put the task aside.
