It took me seventeen years to realize what an extraordinary influence my mom has been in my life. She's the kind of person who has thoughtful discussions about her everyday life experiences and what to do about them, the kind of mom who always has time for her kids, and the kind of leader who always has a strong work ethic. Growing up with such a strong role model, I developed many of her enthusiasms. I not only came to love the excitement of learning simply for the sake of knowing something new, but I also came to understand the idea of understanding new concepts of life and how to use them correctly everyday when it is necessary.
My mom's enthusiasm for learning is most noticeable in her job as an accountant for a construction company. I was about 12 years old when I first visited my mom in her busy office taking phone calls., making appointments, etc. Despite the fact that I was only 12, I always managed to try to understand the way she went throughout her day focused and ready for what was coming next. I vividly remember sitting in her office chair examining her simple tools such as a computer or pen. With all this, five years have passed, and I can truly say I have learned the meaning of hard work and dedication.
While I treasure the various worlds my mom has opened to me, my life has been equally transformed by what she has shown me. As a sixteen year old, I often accompanied my mom to various job sites where the company would be working on construction. While she attended meetings, I helped many of the workers with small jobs so I could understand how things worked on a job site. Having to work with the workers every so often, I got to volunteer at the job sites to help supervise and maintain everything in working order. In that one year of working of working as a volunteer in the construction business, I have learned not only the idea of helping others but also letting them know that there will always be help close by.
