Exchange and sharing of ideas, beliefs, values and concerns make the world appear as global village, where people know and understand each other. Personally, the skills of talking to people from different cultures using one language have helped me a lot. I have had few experiences of that sort, but I might add that they have helped me in reshaping my picture of that specific culture and also contributing in my language learning success.
Firstly, interactions with people for different cultures and various mother tongues have helped me create better relationship and reshape my already existing picture for their culture and their languages. People that are learning about something that seem to them unreachable and different might create a wrong picture. I was part of those masses having wrong image for the British. Last year, during the summer vacations, I went to Turkey and met people from Great Britain, having and image for the English nation as being cold-blooded and workaholic. But I have never met more kind, warm and sincere people. We were talking for long time, thanks to our non-existing language barrier. This event helped me establish broader understanding for the English language and through it, the English culture. After two weeks spent talking on a language, that before was only a word in my weekly schedule of a class that was nothing special to me, I am very enthusiastic about English language and the opportunities it is offering. After those days passed with these pleasant people, I was feeling more confident about my language skills. The most enjoyable thing was that it seemed like I was thinking on English. This definitely was experience that I will remember.
In my opinion, I think that intercultural interaction and socialization among people is very important aspect of development of the new world. Therefore, people’s ability to interact easily with each other is crucial for better understanding, sharing ideas and developing a better world.
