“My Problem with Halloween”
It gets like this every year. The days get shorter, the nights get longer. The temperature begins to drop, and Hally begins to give out her pesky little treats. I don’t even know why she does it, it’s not like all those who she treats are grateful for it anyway. Then again not many of them come anymore, not since they began their own giveaways closer to home. It is better that way anyway.
Knock knock knock
The sound echoes throughout my home. I do not wish to wake up, but if one of those pesky Anathe-
“Please, would you please do me a favour?”
I reluctantly stand and make my way toward the door. I do not wish to help, but if they have what I seek then it’s not like I have choice. I open the door, and before me stands a little girl probably no older than nine, with a muzzle and ears plastered on a head that could have been human. It is not like I am any different, we’re both aliens mixed in with the Anatherian race, but her hybrid status are much more visible than my own. In her arms she holds a young spiritual repere, its blue eyes staring back at me with mixed emotions of fear and curiosity. She enters my home, her body tense as she makes her way toward the couch and sits, uninvited. I take a quick glance at the pet, and quickly realize how beaten and malnourished it looks. The girl sets the poor thing down as she reaches into her back pocket and pulls out an amulet, its wings flapping as it tries to escape. She gives it a violent shake, and then gets up and hands it over to me. I examine the amulet, nod, and then put it around my neck. It glows quietly for a second as if to reassure me that it’s there.
“Your amulet has awoken me. What would you have me do?” I glance at the girl as she reaches for her pet and then puts it down on my table.
“Test your magic on my pet. It’s weak and useless, so whatever happens should be fine.”
“Are you certain? My magic is not predictable, and if you’re hoping it would heal-“
