Independent Novel Study: “Zack”
For this Independent Novel Study I decided that I would do a very interesting book called “Zack”. This book has a lot of racial issues but also acceptance issues which made the symbols and images I choose to make very common but also much improvised pictures. The 5 main characters symbols and pictographs were extremely easy to come up with. “Zack Lane” likes to drink beer and the whole conflict which started the racial problems in the area was when he was drinking with his friends so I decided to make his symbol a beer bottle. While his parents are musicians and professors I also decided it would be best to put some music notes and a graduation hat. Then for Jennifer his best friend and girlfriend hearts and lipstick to classify that she loves pretty pink accessories and her make up. Including in the Characters is Zack’s grandfather who loves to drink and to fish so I decided to put fishes and some drinks to classify as his picture. While as for the minor pictures such as Mr. Jenkins, Grandfather& Grandmother Lane, Murray Knox and Mr.Piffard the pictographs and symbols where much easier to come up with. For Mr. Jenkins it was easier because I symbolized the cd which he took from Zack because he was researching racist things for his father. Then for Zack’s grandparents a taxi car because they are both taxi drivers and have an important talk with Zack about not dropping out of schools to become a taxi driver. While for Murray important informational facts Zack had received for his history project while for Mr.Piffard the necklace because he was a jewelry store owner who told Zack about the nugget he found in the ground. The whole reasoning behind the placement I decided to make in my College picture was the peace, love and acceptance that the main characters should have for each other. So the music notes classify beautiful music playing in the sky and the hearts underneath it shows the love...
