What does your name mean to you?
Is a name really just a name? Or is it just a bounce of letters put together when you are bored. I don’t think so, because now and I am sure always people will name everything, such as: pets, cars, etc. And with that we attach such great significance to a name. My name is short, sweet and I am sure everybody has heard it before. My name is Alisha and let me start off by saying I despise my name. Maybe not despise but I strongly dislike my first and last name. Why could not my name by Shay, Clarisse or even Nevaeh, which is Heaven spelled backgrounds. If I could have somehow been able to communicate with my mother while in the womb, I would have. I do value my name because it is MINE but everything has its ups and downs and let’s just say my name has had more ups then downs.
I am proud to say that my name came from my grandmother Alice Echoels. Alice is my father’s mother and I know what you are thinking if I received my name from my grandmother how come we have different last names. Well, my mother being such a strong woman wanted all of her kids to have her last name. There wasn’t that many of us left that was holding our last name. My mother had to make sure to hold on to the legacy. While doing that she still wanted to be fair and have a piece of my father’s legacy in his one and only baby girl. When I got old enough to understand the story my mother said it was a battle with my first name and was between Sondra and Alice. Sondra is my mother’s first name. I am glad my father stepped up and hated both of those names. My father said he knew I would just hate life if that is what I was stuck with. Even though I know in the back of my head that is not what happen. I am sure my father didn’t want to deal with the confusion when he saying the name. No offense to my relatives but those names makes me feel like I am stuck in the 50’s or 60’s. And I defiantly didn’t want to start off into the world that way. My father is such a...
