New Delhi a Land of Beauty
New Delhi is the traditional and present day capital of India. It is the third largest city in the world, and is also the second largest metropolis after Mumbai with a population of over 13 million. Delhi encompasses the nearby cities of Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad & Faridabad to form the NCR region. Delhi /NCR is the melting pot for various Indian communities & ethnicities. Delhi stands in a triangle formed by the Yamuna river in the east and spurs from the Aravalli range in the west and south. It is surrounded by Haryana on all sides except east where it borders with Uttar Pradesh. Commuting within New Delhi is very convenient due to the well-established metro underground train system.
The central part of Delhi, commonly known as Connaught Place is where most of the architectural relics lie. Most of the buildings in the region were erected in the Colonial period and have been beautifully maintained ever since. Connaught Place, in recent day, has become the business center for the capital, most of the big firms have an office in the region. Connaught Place is often referred to as the Wall Street of New Delhi. Aside from all the offices, Connaught Place also houses many fashion boutiques, restaurants and pubs. In the day, it’s bustling with business men, and by the night it’s buzzing with its nightlife. East of Connaught Place is a beautiful historical monument called “Jantar Mantar” used in prehistory to determine the time using the sun’s location. Right next to Jantar Mantar is one of New Delhi’s oldest and most prestigious schools, Modern School which was founded in 1920. Central Delhi is also the home to the president of the country; like the White house in the United States, India’s president stays at the Rashtrapati Bhawan which is a similarly structured building made of sandstone.
