My First College Essay

This may seem like a typical essay and you may not feel like reading it, but there is more to this essay than what one may think. This essay is about a journey to completing a goal that would lead to a dream. The first goal was to obtain my General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Since I had so many personal obstacles in my way, it took me longer to achieve that goal. Being pregnant at the young age of 17, enduring and triumphing over domestic violence, and realizing that in order for me to be truly successful I would need to start with my GED; all have led me to this point in my life. But to get to this point I needed to begin the journey to my GED, learn to trust in the teachers there to help me, not give up when it came to my test and then enjoy the fruits of my labor.
I had a rough time trying to obtain my high school diploma after I was involved in major accident, due to domestic violence. Because of my accident, I missed so much school that I had to eventually drop out. As I started to get older and have children, I realized that I had to better my education in order to succeed in life. I wanted to walk the walk; telling my kids to finish school even though I didn’t finished high school. I was off of work one morning and decided that I was ready to start improving my future. I started looking online for resources to see where I can sign up to take classes and eventually take the test. I signed up for classes at Y. H. Thomas Community Center and then I got all my materials to start studying.
Although I signed up, I did not succeed the first time. I came across a teacher that I could not understand, and eventually I just got tired of not understanding and dropped out. One day at work, I found out that I was up for a promotion. They then told me that without my GED, I will not be qualified to receive the promotion I worked so hard to earn. I...
