Before addressing any issues that may hinder network efficiency understanding connectivity types and their role in network architecture, each connection type rather it is VPN, IDSN, DSL or ATM will work in for the intended customer. VPN improves mobility of employees by allowing the employees to logon to an organization’s enterprise network through the internet, it is able to combine several networks into one large network or join to different organization networks to create an extended intranet. VPN’s also lessen the overhead a company spends on trying to expand its network for it to be mobile. It also lessens the expense of having leased lines or having to use PBX to communicate over longer distances. IDSN stands for Integrated Digital Services Network is a circuit switched transmission that is able to transmit data telephone lines. IDSN provides two levels of service Basic Rate Interface (BRI) for homes or small businesses and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) for large business. A BRI can provide transmission speeds of up to 128 Kbps over home phone lines, it consist and a PRI can provide transmission speeds of up to 1472 Kbps these are slow transmission speeds and are generally utilized on home networks where DSL isn’t available because of the distance from the central office of the ISP (Rouse, n.d.). DSL is a transmission media that is location sensitive yet it can provide decent internet speeds that range from 128Kbps up to 3 Mbps it is able to provide faster speeds of the existing twisted pair which keeps cost down. ATM is a high speed data transmitter that is used in larger business that operates on the data link layer on the OSI model. ATM is able to transmit signal over fiber or twisted pair and is capable of transmission speeds as high as 10 gbps. This form of transmission is great for larger networks as it is designed for maximum efficiency on a network as it utilizes point to point connections...
