Nuclear Power as an Energy Source

Nuclear Power as an Energy Source

Nuclear energy is the energy source released by a nuclear reaction, which is cause by fission or fusion. To prove that nuclear energy is the best type of energy source for the future, one must show how this is possible. One must tell where this energy source comes from, and what advantages and disadvantages does this energy source provide. What this energy source will be used for, is there any pollution produced by this energy source, how this energy source will be contained or stored, and if there are any other alternative types of energy sources that can be uses in the future.
The element used in nuclear energy is uranium. This element consists of 92 protons and 143 neutrons. There are many isotopes of uranium; the two most commonly used are Uranium-235 and Uranium-238. Uranium atoms, and the rest of the elements that are represented on the periodic table, are all composed of atoms. Atoms are tiny building blocks of everything we know of that exists on Earth and the universe that we know of today. These atoms are made up of three particles known as protons, neutrons, and electrons.
“Uranium was discovered in 1789. It was named after the planet Uranus. Scientists believe that uranium was formed around 6.6 billion years ago as a result of a huge explosion in space called supernovas.”(Giacobello 9)
Protons are positively charged, electrons are negatively charged, and neutrons have a neutral charge. Protons and neutrons are the center of the atom, commonly known as the nucleus. Electrons are particles that surround the nucleus.
Global warming is known world wide and is it true or false? Every year there is a slight increase in temperature according to the news, that people hear day in and day out. This is one of the biggest reasons why people should stop burning fossil fuels which will prevent pollution from being released into the air. Nuclear energy provides a pollution free atmosphere.
