Obesity is a problem in America
How did obesity rate in the United States sky-rocketed over the past years? In 2004, there are 31% of Americans are obese. Each year the obesity rate and health risk increases. There are many different health risks involve toward obesity. For example premature deaths, heart diseases, strokes, type two diabetes, cancers, fatty liver diseases, gallbladder diseases, and more (Collins). Americans have to find a way to reduce the obesity rate before it is too late. The different ways to help to reduce obesity rate in the United States are by eating smaller portion, choosing healthier foods, and exercising everyday.
In the United States, people are eating much larger portions of foods everyday. In the recent years it appears that food portion sizes have gotten bigger. Many Americans believes it would be a waste if there are any left over foods on their plate. Studies shows that “cookies were as much as 7 times standard portion sizes, servings of cooked pasta were often nearly 5 times standard portion sizes, and muffins weighed in at over 3 times standard portion sizes” (Henneman). Larger food portion sizes cause obesity to many people. “Eating more food less often can put consumers at higher risk of high cholesterol and blood pressure” (Jones). One way to lower obesity in the United States is to reduce the food portions that are served to the people. Americans should be aware of how much they are eating and the types of food they choose to eat.
Healthy foods choices can help America to reduce obesity rate. The United State has in excess of junk foods and fast-food industries. Most of the fast-foods companies sever foods that contain high-fats and high-calories. This can cause bad eating habits and health risks. Fast food is everywhere and it is available and accessible.
